The premise of the game is that you and a few adventurers arrive to a new town with a known legendary dungeon that has never been conquered. But you're not ready for that, yet.
You just got to town, you only have your basic equipment and money in your pocket. First order or business? Buy supplies, and don't forget about food.
Starving in the Dungeon is a bad way to go.
Before getting a license to enter a real dungeon, all attempted heroes must go through a practice dungeon. But the town has a budget to provide real rewards if you succeed. But if you fail, you're laughed out of town.
Now that you've got a little more gold in your pockets, buy some real adventuring gear and go into the first of three dungeons. Each more challenging than the last. Try to defeat each boss to get permission to enter the next.
The game switches cycles and phases going from the dungeon diving, fighting off monsters with your Gear Deck, to using treasure from the dungeon to improve your Coffers Deck, used in town to buy better gear.
The game continues the cycle until all 3 dungeon bosses are defeated or until the whole party is defeated in any dungeon.
(The temple will resurrect you if someone can bring you out, but at a cost and a penalty.)
